Privacy policy
Fishily Ltd. (“we,” “us,” or “our”) built the Fishily app as a freemium service. This Privacy Policy is designed to help you understand how we collect, use, and share your personal information and to help you understand and exercise your privacy rights.
If you choose to use our service, you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described here.
This policy is effective as of 28 July 2025.
Information We Collect
To provide and improve the Fishily service, we collect the following types of information:
1. Information You Provide to Us
- Account Information: When you create an account, we require your name and email address. You may also voluntarily provide optional information such as a profile picture, a bio, your general location (city), and whether you own a boat.
- User-Generated Content: We collect the content you create on the app, including photos, videos, and text for feed posts, comments, trip and crew details, and private messages.
- Location Data: We collect location information when you choose to add it to a post, trip, or crew listing. This is used to show your content to nearby users and to help you find trips in your area. You are not required to provide location data to use all features of the app.
2. Information We Collect Automatically
- Usage and Log Data: When you use our app, our servers (hosted by Firebase) automatically record information. This may include your device’s IP address, operating system version, app configuration, the time and date of your use, and crash reports (via Firebase Crashlytics). This data helps us diagnose problems and improve the app.
- Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to understand how our users interact with the app. This helps us learn which features are most popular and where we can make improvements. This data is aggregated and does not personally identify you.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To Provide and Operate the Service: To set up your account, display your profile and content, and connect you with other users for fishing trips.
- To Enable Key App Features: To use your location to show you nearby trips and to allow you to communicate with other users via private messaging.
- To Improve Our App: To analyse usage trends, fix bugs, and develop new features.
- To Communicate With You: To send you service-related notifications and respond to your support requests.
- To Provide Supporting Services: To process in-app purchases and display advertisements.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We only share it with the following third-party service providers who help us operate and improve Fishily:
- Google (Firebase, Google Cloud, Google Maps, AdMob): We use Google’s services for our backend infrastructure, data storage, analytics, crash reporting, displaying maps, and serving ads. We do not share your device’s advertising ID with AdMob.
- RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat to securely process in-app purchases for Fishily Premium subscriptions. We do not store your payment information on our servers.
Your public profile information and any content you post publicly (like on the feed) will be visible to other Fishily users.
We may also share information with law enforcement or other third parties if required by law.
Data Storage and Security
Your information is stored on secure servers provided by Google Cloud. We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from loss, theft, and unauthorized access. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Your Rights and Choices
In accordance with New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
- Access and Correct Your Information: You can review and update most of your profile information directly within the app’s settings. For any other corrections, you can contact us.
- Delete Your Account: You can delete your account at any time. When you delete your account, we will delete your personal information from our servers, though some content may remain visible if it has been shared by other users.
Children’s Privacy
Our services are not intended for anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 16. If we discover that a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, we will immediately delete it from our servers.
